Nothing beats doing things together.
Last night, our team of coaches met to work on various items related to our church's small group ministry. Honestly, I came to this meeting with a bit of a bad attitude somewhat caused by a tough day at work, somewhat caused by the lack of connection with the other coaches due to our sporadic summer meeting schedule.
Thankfully, last night's meeting was just what I needed. We spent time planning our fall schedule, sharing community around the dinner table, starting to brainstorm about an upcoming winter retreat, praying, and just having fun together. I left the meeting so encouraged and so humbled to be on such a great team.
These kinds of meetings are so important not only to accomplish small group related business but more so to develop the community among small group coaches. How can we expect our home team leaders to demonstrate and foster community among their own groups if we are not emulating this for them as coach leaders?
If you are a small group coach, I would encourage you to get together regularly with other coaches to experience this type of community.
Another important aspect of our meetings is that they provide a foundation for accountability for the coaches. We were challenged last night to make sure that we meet with our small group leaders regularly. It is important to know that others have my back and that they will push me to be the best coach I can be.
If you are a coach, I would encourage you to reach out to your small group leaders. Get together with them to develop and experience community. By meeting like this, small group leaders will be encouraged to push the community envelope in their own groups.
Community is contagious!
